Annual Household Hazardous Waste/Universal Waste Collection Day
The 2021 HHW/UW Collection Day will be held on Saturday, September 25, 10:00-2:00. We have requested to host the event at MDI High School, using at least one of the school’s parking lots. ADD is awaiting confirmation from MDIHS.
Residents of Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Lamoine, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton, and Swan’s Island are eligible to bring Household Hazardous Waste and Universal Waste to this event.
Residents of Bar Harbor are eligible to bring Household Hazardous Waste to this event, but not Universal Waste.
There is no charge to householders for bringing their HHW and UW to this event. The towns will pay for the cost of this service.
What is acceptable?
- Some participating towns require their residents to obtain a form from their respective town office and complete it before going to the collection event. Check with your town office or click below for a printable form or pick one up at your town office.

Universal Waste Collection – Bar Harbor
Bar Harbor residents can bring their Universal Waste items to Bar Harbor’s transfer station during any hours the station is open. Bar Harbor residents should not bring Universal Waste to the island HHW/UW Collection Day, since they have that service in their community, but are welcome to bring Household Hazardous Waste to the Waste Collection Day.
Universal Waste Collection – Towns using the EMR Transfer Station in Southwest Harbor
Universal Waste can be brought to the EMR Transfer Station in Southwest Harbor on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You may also bring Universal Waste to the annual HHW/UW Collection Day.
